does the table tennis blade matter?
First of all it worth noting that everybody is different and will find various materials more or less suitable. The best blade for tenergy depends on many factors, such as your style of play, your level of play, your strengths and weaknesses etc.
The thing worth noting is that tenergy already has a huge amount of dwell time (time that the ball stays on the table tennis racket before leaving) that other rubbers don't have. So having a blade that has lots of dwell time means you will pretty much only be able to spin the ball and not much else. If you get a blade with flex you will also be in the same boat. (Flex means the blade actually slightly bends which can be seen in thinner bats). Not only that the amount of spin will become so great that you will find control almost insane. Insane that you can't hit the ball without the ball staying on your bat for 5 minutes before it leaves.
So many players - myself included choose a bat that is stiffer and harder to still be able to hit the ball when hitting harder into the blade. It harder and stiffer doesn't mean the fastest blade in the world - just means it will give a bit more consistency to steering the ball, I would call this control.
Most would go with some sort of carbon or carbon arylate mix in there too. I can't go past the ishlion as the perfect blade for tenergy. The ishlion is a harder blade and lighter which balances out the heavy weight of tenergy.
Have you ever heard of this general concept? I know some players around my club saying, use the same manufacturer for both the blade and rubber. Why? Because Table Tennis companies design their products by testing them on their own products. Now I don't really believe this but it is an interesting idea that Butterfly Tenergy rubbers should only be used on butterfly blades. I am sure Butterfly would love this "myth" spread!
I just received this email from M. Y.:
what blade is a good match for tenergy rubber
I am a two-winged female looper. I am planning to try tenergy 05 rubber, but I have heard that tenergy is pretty hard and heavy. I am wondering what blade goes well with tenergy 05. Please advise. Is tenergy 05 durable? If I practice 3 hours daily, how often do I change the rubber?Should I get 1.9mm or 2.1 mm?
First thing I would like to say is, I wish people would just join up at the site and post these questions on the Website, because they are useful to all of us. It means I don't need to keep answering the same questions.
No matter male or female Tenergy is used equally by top female table tennis players too. Tenergy is not hard, I would say medium hard but will agree that it quite heavy. If you play 3 hours daily then I think you will probably change your rubber every 3 months if you want to maintain the 90-100% of the spin level. If you happy to use a spin level drop off down to 60% of its full possibility then you can use tenergy 05 for more than a year at that rate of play. I have sheets that are almost 2 years old which loop with spin better than most old generation rubbers. The thickness you get depends on your ability and blade. If you want full power spin looping on your forehand I would suggest the 2.1. The thinner the less speed and spin especially after the initial 3 months.
Now Which blade? I know nothing about your style so I will say what I am using now and what most players in the world are using that are the top two winged loopers and that is a Timo Boll Spirit blade. For a fraction less speed than that Michael Maze is also fantastic.
If you join tenergy club you can reply and explain more about your style and there will be more comments, but for now I will say tenergy 05 2.1 on your forehand of a timo boll spirit and something much lighter and quicker on the backhand in 2mm or 1.9 mm such as bryce speed fx or Killer spin fortissimo.

Blade for Tenergy 05
The Joola Trix Fast is good for T05. It is very hard so it has more control and only weighs 75g. I don't care which TABLE TENNIS BLADES because ALL COMPANIES are very similar.
BTY best blade for Tenergy? Not so sure....
I currently use a Donic Waldner Black Devil CB with Bryce/Sriver EL (used to have Desto F3 on it) and I'm looking to move up. Been debating which Tenergy to try on this blade. Thoughts or suggestions? Light blade but stiff (compared to what I had before - BTY primorac 2000) so I think this might be a good non-BTY candidate to try.
Just in case, though, I have a Mizutani sitting around to do a back-to-back comparison.
table tennis blade with best dwell time
As Boz knows, I use a timo boll SPARK with my tenergy. the control off the blade is brilliant, combined with tenergy 05 it's specifically for loopers, you can literally loop all night with it. Great fun!
best table tennis blade
I have tried many of the high speed low weight blades and keep coming back to the same conclusion. You can't really defy the laws too much with out losing something else in return. I have my older tenergy 05s on an Andro super core light carbon blade and that is similar. All these blades are very quick and kind of "tinny" like hitting straight into carbon, giving you no reaction time, not much touch at all, and after playing extended hours quite annoying. If you are sure that is the blade for you, I am sure than tenergy 05 will be the best match you can find for it, because all those light carbon blades have zero dwell and a good harder sponge will mask some of that. I have also used donic f3 and sure its fun and loud, but all soft rubbers in my opinion are not for serious fast play, they bottom out much too quickly and are bouncy at the wrong times.

would love to see your opinions here about the timo boll spark!, no need to be anonymous.

Not 100% sure if the BD is the blade for me yet...
I agree with the can't defy laws too much statement. And you are spot on with the your assessment on the characteristics of the carbon blades (from what I can tell with my BD). I get comments on the "tinny" sound at the club. I have a pretty good touch game but the BD certainly made me work on more. Haven't had the extended hours annoyance bit yet.
Spot on with the Desto F3 as well, too soft and the ball would get to the blade even on touch shots which made it take off.
I'll be putting up a blog with my results and thoughts once I have a T05 to test with.
desto vs tenergy
After the last 5 years of making butterfly TT paddle comparisons, I never expected such a high ranking player as I was talking to day to say what he did. Bruno Levis, I am pretty sure that is his name, from Chile has been playing at our Brisbane Table Tennis Association once a week. His ranking on ratings central is about 2500 or something like that whilst Wiliam Henzell is about 2800, I am now 1690! after losing a match I totally shouldn't have. Anyway, I was looking at and holding his Jun Mizutani with tenergy 64 on both sides and I said gee I would like this blade and then he saw my timo boll spirit and he said that is a really good blade to but too fast! I was shocked. I said I am sure that his Jun Mizutani played faster and all the readings from Butterfly say that. He said "I don't know it's the players hand, everyone is different, it's the way you play the ball. Anyway this guy is about to play William Henzell tomorrow, he is the best player I have seen at our club for a long time since some random Germans pass through once a year. It is in your hands and the way you play that decides if it is fast for you.
Now if I am going to be serious about having a super hot rubber and a control rubber I would write about desto vs tenergy.

who uses michael maze blade and two tenergy 05?
I was wondering who uses a michael maze blade and two tenergy 05s. But from what I can see the Michael Maze blade was used by only Michael Maze with Bryce and Bryce speed fx probably because it a little softer than the timo boll spirit. I still think that the Michael Maze will suit this rubber choice.
what is the best blade to put tenergy 05 on?
Although this is totally objective and I have discussed what the best blade to put tenergy 05 on is in my opinion, I have come up with a new element to take into account.
I believe a thinner blade is better.
Why?
It is all about blade balance. Head heavy is the key thing people complain about with 2 tenergy rubbers on. Thin blades are more handle heavy since the handle is always the same thickness no matter which blade it is roughly the same. But the thickness of the overall core which will counter balance the handle glued on top.
So the best balanced blade I have tried so far is my thin defensive blade.

best table tennis blade for looping
The best for chopping is not the same as the table tennis blade for looping or smashing.
5 ply blade often are the best for purely looping blades
best blade thickness
The problem with going to thin though is that upper veneers are often thinner and as a result splinter off or can be damage easily. The best blade thickness may be thinner if you don't take durability into account, but the best blade thickness should really consider a slightly thicker upper veneer.
The perfect blade for tenergy 05 fx ...Darker 7P2A
The better blade for Tenergy 05 FX is the Darker 7P2A. Perfect blade for each type of game, but not very fast, perfect control, no vibration, perfect for all. I used a BTY primo vitesse and Timo Boll alc, the difference with this Handmade blade is incredible, the Darker is very very perfect. try it. And i am not a seller
