Tenergy 64 on Matsushita Pro Defensive Blade

I play Modern Defensive.

I chop on my backhand with long pips and I chop or attack on my forehand with inverted.
I have been playing for about a year.
Butterfly Matsushita Pro SpecialMy Setup:

Matsushita Pro Defensive blade and Tenergy 64 Black 1.7 Thickness
CurrentlyI use TSP Curl P1R Long Pips 1.0 thickness on backhand

The setup is not too heavy at all. The thinner thickness of the tenergy and the long pips makes the setup rather light actually.

My thoughts on Tenergy 64 1.7 on Matsushita Pro defensive blade.

Close to Table Offensive Strokes

Blocking: 8.5/10 Blocking is super easy. As we all know 64 is an excellent blocking rubber.
Opening Loop: 7/10 Pretty good for a defensive blade. No need to be passive. Best results are when you go for it. Might not be superfast but placement it easy. Opening up pushed balls is easy with Tenergy 64.
Counterhitting: 7/10 As good as it gets for a soft defensive blade.
Smashing: 8/10  Pretty easy to do.
Returning Serve: 7.5/10 Very manageble. Takes a few sessions to get used to bounciness of rubber.
Pushing: 8/10 Great control and good spin.
Serving: 9/10 Serving is a breeze. Excellent Spin and control. Tenergy continues to amaze me at how good serves are for such a fast rubber. The grippiness of the rubber allows you to put excellent spin on serves.

Off the table Offensive Strokes

Counterlooping/Looping: 8.5/10 Tenergy 64 turned my defensive chopping blade into a pretty decent looping tool. Control looping is easy with this setup. Also the slow spinny loops are easy to do with my setup.
Driving: 9/10 Tenergy 64 is a loop driving machine! Sometimes the speed suprises me and my playing partner.

Defensive Strokes:

Close to table chops: 6.5/10 It's kinda hard to keep them low. On occasion they will go long. I find myself wanting to loop anyways.

Mid/Far Chopping: 8.75/10
Excellent spin and control. Chopping may take some time to get used to. Yes tenergy is fast. Yes it is bouncy. But if you take the time to get used to chopping with it you will be rewarded with loads of spin. My suggestion to those struggling with chopping with this rubber is to "chop more vertically". What I'm trying to say is don't worry about getting the ball back on the table. Many times after I launched a chop long I tried to slow down my chop. The problem was not my chopping speed but my chopping angle. The speed of the rubber will get the ball back onto the table. Let the sponge do the work for you. No need to scoop when chopping. Just chop that ball. :)

Final Thoughts:

The Matsushita Pro is a soft defensive blade with high flex. So it has high dwell time. Add a rubber like tenergy 64 which also has high dwell time. This can lead to ridiculous amounts of spin.
Many beginners worry about Tenergy being too fast and hard to control.
I feel like 1.7 thickness is not hard to control at all. The extra spin of tenergy rubbers helps get the ball back down on the table.
For modern defenders Tenergy 64 is an ideal rubber.
Modern defenders need a rubber that can chop and loop from off the table. This is exactly what Tenergy 64 can do.

I hope this little review has been helpful. If you have any questions please ask.

Harry congratulations- that is possibly the best review here

I have seen lots of reviews and things written on various forums and pages on this site too.  I think what you wrote, the style and clarity is super helpful.yes

If anyone is wondering what a quality webpage is.  Have another look at this one by Harry.

Thanks a lot I have no idea about defensive blades and 1.7 so this is a very very useful article mate.  On a new note I have been wondering if I should try to get some sort of point system going here?  I already have the ratings people can give, not sure about points.

Nice review!

Enjoyed reading the review and found it informative.  Good to see a defensive player using Tenergy.  There is a  2097 (usatt rated) player at the club I play at who is defensive.  It is fun to watch him play.  Thankfully, he plays on the advanced night.   Not sure what he is using but should be able to check with him tomorrow and see.

Again, great review.

Butterfly ZLC Zylon Timo Boll Blade with Tenergy

Hi,
Ive just developed my new bat.
I bought a new Timo Boll ZLC Zylon carbon Blade and put Tenergy 05 on my backhand and Tenergy 64 on my forehand.
Now that combinaion really works.

The reason that is such a nice combination is because on my backhand i flick and smash alot, but all of that is near the table, and also i was so surprised when the guy i was playing was smashing the ball at me, i stuck the bat in front of the ball and it just very nicely went back over the net, and it did that everytime, i imagined that it would fly off into space when connected to a smashed ball, but it the 05 picked the ball up nicely and controlled it back over without any effort. Now on the forehand, im a top spinner and looper, i love the 64 for that, it just works so well and it is excitting to use. Also if you,ve got a smasher player, you can so easily mid range pick up any smashes and push then back or loop then or top spin them back or just push the ball in the air back, the guy i played was so aggressive in his smashes and i was picking up his smashes and just patting them back from mid range, he was so annoyed and was tring to smash more and more and i was casually just pushing the ball back, and he was just making mistakes after mistakes and i was very casuel about the whole game, its great for mid range defense, great for attack and great for cardio exercise work, i love that combination, expensive bat system, about £210 pounds sterling for it all, but so worth it. I love it.
It might not work for everyone as you really have to play the ball, run round the table and put some effort into the game, but if you want dynamic playing with fun and good cardi workout, then that combination is good, im looking forward to playing league games with that bat set up.

slow blocking blade at the table

I still think the ttmaster blade "super defense" is one of the best blockers in the world.

tenergy rubber slow blade

Most players choose tenergy as a more offensive tool, but it seems it is also a very good rubber for a slow blade.

choppers

Harry thank you for the very informative and well written review...Its good to see something written from a defensive perspective although i think i would cut my wrists if i had to play you by the sounds of it. in fact i am playing the same style on wednesday!!! ahhhhh was so much easier when i had short pimple

Have you tried 05 or thicker sponge?

defensive blade fast rubber

I must be honest that I always thought offensive rubbers belong on offensive blades but I am currently using a defensive blade with very fast rubber: tenergy 64.  I enjoyed rereading this post to give me some insight or understanding on where I am now.
